Movement System Impairment Syndromes of the Extremities, Cervical and Thoracic Spines입니다

전작 Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndromes에 이은 후속작입니다

Neurophysiological Basis of Movement - 2nd Edition

Beta motor neuron

Beta motor neuron

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A beta motor neuron (or beta motoneuron) as alpha motor neuron and gamma motor neuron is a kind of lower motor neuron. These motor neurons (β-MNs) innervateintrafusal fibers of muscle spindles with collaterals to extrafusal fibers (type of slow twitch fibers). Axons of beta motor neurons (as alpha and gamma motoneuron) are myelinated. Alpha, gamma and beta motor neurons originate from the anterior horn of spinal cord and travel to skeletal muscles (efferent neurons). Alpha motor fibers have a larger diameter and higher conduction velocity than beta and gamma motor fibers.

Types of beta motoneuron

There are two kinds of beta motoneuron (as gamma motoneuron) that include:

  • Static beta motor neurons. These motor neurons innervate nuclear chain fibers of muscle spindles, with collaterals to extrafusal muscle fibers.
  • Dynamic beta motor neurons. The dynamic type innervates nuclear bag fibers of muscle spindles, with collaterals to extrafusal muscle fibers.

Gamma motoneurons innervate only intrafusal fibers of muscle spindles, but extrafusal fibers (i.e. slow and fast fibers) are innervated by alpha motoneurons.

CIBA

Frank H. Netter

"Diencephalon(사이뇌, 간뇌)과 telencephalon(끝뇌)은 함께 cerebrum을 구성하는데......."

Cinderella hypothesis

The Cinderella hypothesis is based on earlier finding by Henneman et al. (1965), showing an orderly recruitment of motor units - the smaller functional units of the muscle - in response to static muscle load. Small, low-threshold motor units (type Ⅰ fibers) are always recruited first, before large ones, and these low-threshold units are assumed to remain constantly active until complete relaxation of the muscle. Motor units with higher thresholds are activated at higher force levels and are shut off as soon as the force level decreases. This means that the low-threshold or 'Cinderella' motor units are constantly active under sustained physical work, whereas motor units with higher thresholds are activated only during heavy physical work.
